Decal Size Guide: How to Choose the Right Size
The right size is the difference between a decal that looks planned and one that looks lost. Before you order, spend two minutes measuring the spot you have in mind. It is the single best way to be happy with the result.
How our sizes are listed
Every product page shows the decal size as width by height in inches. Width is always the first number. So a 5 x 3 inch decal is 5 inches across and 3 inches tall. One inch is 2.54 centimetres.
Measure the space
- Measure the flat area where the decal will go, leaving a margin of at least half an inch on every side.
- On car glass, measure only the area inside the black dotted border and away from wiper paths.
- Cut a piece of paper to the decal size and tape it in place. Step back a few metres and look at it from where people will see it.
Size ideas by spot
- Rearview mirror edge: small designs around 4 x 2 inches, kept to the very edge of the glass.
- Bathroom or vanity mirror: 4 to 8 inches wide depending on the mirror.
- Car rear window corner: 5 to 9 inches wide reads clearly from the car behind.
- Truck back window: larger statement pieces up to the width of the flat glass.
- Laptop lid: 3 to 6 inches wide, depending on the laptop.
- Water bottle or tumbler: 2 to 4 inches wide, smaller on tapered bottles.
Custom sizes stay in proportion
Any decal in our shop can be made in a custom size. When you change the width, the height changes by the same percentage, so the design never looks stretched or squashed. For example, a 5 x 3 inch design made 10 inches wide becomes 10 x 6 inches.
